Ultimate to apply Vietnam visa exemption certificate online?

In order to help the applicants get Vietnam visa exemption certificates more conveniently and save their time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the Online System for visas to Vietnam.

I. Eligibility

  • Vietnamese residents abroad.
  • Spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens or residents abroad.
  • Valid passport for at least 1 year.

II. Ineligible for a visa exemption certificate

  • Those who don’t meet the requirements.
  • Individuals subject to entry and exit suspension as stated in the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam.

III. Vietnamese residents in the US must apply in person at the Embassy.

If unable to do so, documents can be sent via Registered Mail Restricted Delivery or authorized third-party submission (except for parents applying for their children). Children under 14 years old are exempt from the in-person requirement.

Required documents:

  • (1) Completed application form with recent photo

Fill out the online form at ……, print, and sign. Ensure the printed application is complete with a visible barcode. Note that this is mandatory. If the application is incomplete or lacks a barcode, you must re-register.

If your children are listed in your passport, provide the information required by Item 12 of the form. Children with their own passports should submit separate forms, not included in their parents’ or guardians’ forms.

  • (2) Recent passport photograph (4×6 size, white background, direct look, no sunglasses or headwear)
  • (3) Applicant’s valid US passport (at least 1 year of validity) and a copy of the passport’s personal detail page
  • (4) Original and a copy of one of the following documents proving Vietnamese citizenship:

– Certificate of Vietnamese citizenship
– Copy or excerpt of the Decision for Recovery or Renunciation of Vietnamese citizenship
– Certificate of Lost Vietnamese Citizenship
– Valid or invalid Vietnamese passport
– Valid or invalid Identity Card
– Birth Certificate
– Latest voter’s card
– Family Register Book
– Travel document issued before 1975
– Identity Card issued before 1975
– Excerpt from Birth Register issued before 1975
– Documents issued by foreign authorities proving original Vietnamese citizenship or Vietnamese origin

  • (5) If sending documents by post or authorizing a third party, they must be certified by a Notary Public (if originals are not attached)

IV. Spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens or overseas Vietnamese must submit applications in person at the Embassy.

If the documents were issued by US authorities, they must be legalized by a Notary Public.
  • (5) If sending documents by post or authorizing a third party, they must be certified by a Notary Public (if originals are not attached)

V. Fee:

Pay by MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK to the Embassy.

VI. Validity

The visa exemption certificate is valid for up to 5 years and must expire at least 6 months before the applicant’s passport expiry.

Before filling in the application form for a visa exemption certificate, you are advised to read carefully the following guidance:

STEP 1

– Filling all the required information in the application form

Note: All personal information must be accurate and in full since the void of which shall make the application ineligible for consideration and refused, hence the request for re-submission of the application.

All sections marked with (*) are compulsory.

STEP 2

– After all, information is fully filled, press the button ‘Complete” for the system to automatically generate an electronic application form.

– To view and download an electronic application form to your computer, press “DOWNLOAD” The system allows you to recollect the application form. Please save all information on “Registration Number” and “Verification Code” for subsequent use or enter your email address to get the information automatically sent to your mailbox.

 STEP 3

– To read the downloaded electronic application form (PDF file), please use Acrobat Reader or other compatible software.

– Once again, please check all the declared information before laser-printing on A4 size paper (01 copy submitted to the Vietnamese diplomatic mission).

STEP 4

 – How to prepare the file: Sign in the printed electronic application form and prepare the file as instructed.

STEP 5

– Go to the nearest Vietnamese diplomatic mission to submit your file.

– Detail contact information of Vietnamese diplomatic missions is provided.

– Time for issuing the certificate of visa exemption by Vietnamese diplomatic missions.
